This research group focuses on applied mineralogy, crystal chemistry, and the physical properties of Tunisia's industrial minerals, including clays, carbonates, and siliceous materials. Research activities are directed toward high-resolution structural characterization and the assessment of the industrial valorization potential of geomaterials. Particular attention is devoted to smectitic clays, kaolinites, and dolomites because of their textural properties and ion-exchange capacities, which are of significant interest for environmental applications.
Our research also integrates the valorization of phosphate and clay mining wastes within a circular economy framework. We work closely with local ceramic, cement, and gypsum industries to optimize the development of geopolymers and sustainable construction materials. Characterization techniques include X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and coupled thermal analysis (TG/DSC).
