RESEARCH PROJECTS

The GEOGLOB Laboratory structures its scientific activities around three major federative research projects, covering a broad range of disciplines in Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and the Circular Economy.

P1
Research Project 1

Water Cycle, Climate, Environments and Global Change

Project Leader(s) : Nejib Kallel (Professor), Fekri Kamoun (Professor), Chokri Yaich (Professor)

This research project focuses on regional and global climate dynamics through the study of the water cycle, paleoclimates, and continental and lagoonal sedimentary environments in the Mediterranean region and North Africa.

Associated Research Activities (5) :
  • Activity 1 : Freshwater Inputs into the Mediterranean During the Last Sapropel and Their Impact on Water Acidification and Planktonic Foraminiferal Ecosystems
  • Activity 2 : Oxygen and Carbon Isotopes in Villafranchian Calcretes: Tracers of Precipitation Sources and Vegetation
  • Activity 3 : Response of Lagoonal Fauna in Southeastern Tunisia (El Bibane and El Grine) to Extreme Events During the Last Centuries
  • Activity 4 : Benthic Foraminifera as Tracers of Climate Change and Anthropogenic Impacts in the Ghar El Melh, Khneiss, and Djerba Lagoons During the Last Millennium
  • Activity 5 : Dispersion of Invasive Benthic Foraminifera in the Mediterranean: Interactions Between Lessepsian Migration and Climate Change

Research Project 2

Geomaterials, Innovative Materials and Circular Economy

Project Leader(s) : Ali TLILI (Professor) et Mongi FELHI (Maître-assistant)

The research activities of our "Geomaterials, Innovative Materials and Circular Economy" team within the GEOGLOB Laboratory are organized around four major research areas: the valorization of dolomites from the Seugdal Formation for the treatment of industrial effluents, the beneficiation of fine phosphate waste through selective flotation, the valorization of non-detrital siliceous rocks, and the development of new methods for producing fine-grained alloys.

Associated Research Activities (4) :
  • Activity 1 : Valorization of Dolomites from the Seugdal Formation for the Treatment of Industrial Effluents Contaminated with Dyes
  • Activity 2 : Beneficiation of Fine Phosphate Waste from the Gafsa–Metlaoui Basin through Selective Flotation
  • Activity 3 : Valorization of Non-Detrital Siliceous Rocks for Innovative Environmental and Industrial Applications
  • Activity 4 : New Methods for the Production of Fine-Grained Alloys

Research Project 3

Exploration and Valorization of Petroleum Geo-resources

Project Leader(s) : Hassène AFFOURI (Professeur)

This project focuses on the petrographic, sedimentological, and geochemical characterization of conventional and unconventional source rocks in Tunisia, as well as on understanding diagenetic processes and their role in metal mineralization.

Associated Research Activities (4) :
  • Activity 1 : Oil Shales as Source Rocks: Exploration and Energy, Mineral, and Organic Valorization
  • Activity 2 : Integrated Analysis of the Tunisian Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T-OAE) through Multidisciplinary Sedimentological, Geochemical, and Isotopic Approaches
  • Activity 3 : Organic-Matter Diagenesis and MVT-Type Mineralization
  • Activity 4 : Diagenesis of Clays and Organic Matter
