Sedimentology

Group Overview

The Sedimentology Group focuses its research on basin analysis, the dynamic sedimentology of marine and continental environments, and the stratigraphy of Mesozoic–Cenozoic successions in Tunisia. We investigate sediment transport dynamics, as well as deltaic and coastal lagoon processes. Our research contributes to reconstructing depositional architecture and ancient depositional environments in relation to eustatic, tectonic, and climatic variations.

The main industrial application concerns the characterization of hydrocarbon and groundwater reservoirs in Tunisia. We model the geometrical evolution of sedimentary bodies and sedimentary diagenesis affecting reservoir quality, particularly porosity and permeability. Our studies integrate detailed fieldwork, core sedimentology, and high-resolution sedimentological characterization in central and eastern Tunisia.
